End of Season
This photo came to me today and seems fitting for the close to our season. This is from Cathi Bower of the Glendale Colony (Whidbey) and I imagine she and her survey partner Louie are reminiscing back on all the fun they had with their PIGU this season. :)
As far as I know, all colonies are done now, with the exception of one, Butterball Cove (South Sound). If you can believe it, they are still observing prey deliveries at this late date! Their last burrow activated two weeks ago, so they will potentially survey into October. Kudos to them for sticking it out! That's a loooong season (whew), but it will yield some interesting data to add to our study! I know that PIGU do sometimes lay a late clutch, especially if they've had a failed one earlier on, but they aren't very often successful. So far, this one seems to be going strong.
Since we are exactly two weeks out from our End of Season event, I thought it would be good to send out a reminder. I hope to see everyone on Wednesday, October 2nd at 7:00pm. For those who can't make it, we will miss you!! I will make sure to record it though, so you can watch later.
A huge thank you to all of you for getting data in this season and making a push to complete the last of the QA. We are almost there and I know it's been a huge task--especially in the midst of, well, life. I appreciate you all!
Enjoy this off season and I'll see you on the 2nd,
— Shannon
