Colonies

Pigeon Guillemots breed throughout the Salish Sea, but that doesn't mean colonies are always easy to see or access. Whidbey Island is one of the best places to view Pigeon Guillemot colonies because there are a multitude of sites that are publicly accessible.  Visiting May - July in morning or evening offers more opportunities to see activity but please keep your distance to minimize disturbance to the birds. Below are some easily accessible sites and a map of colonies on Whidbey Island.

Langley Marina: 228 Warf Street Langley, Washington- there is a new colony nesting in the old dock that you can view from the present marina dock

Shore Meadows: From Hwy. 525 take Bush point road, then south onto Shore Meadow Road.  The public access is a pathway in front of the condos.  Please be respectful of private tidelands.

Keystone: 1400 State Route 20 Coupeville, Wahington.  This colony nests in the derelict pier next to the ferry terminal.
